Auckland’s Sky Tower will be lit up orange on July 1st in support of Shine’s annual Light It Orange fundraising appeal. Shine’s brand colour orange is used to symbolise hope for people experiencing family violence.
Shine is a specialist family violence provider based in Tāmaki Makaurau that delivers a range of services to support people experiencing family violence. It is part of Presbyterian Support Northern’s (PSN) group of social services. Shine Education and Training is the specialist training arm of Shine, providing a wide range of family violence response training and education services nationally.
GM Fundraising & Social Enterprise Lisa Rudolphe says Sky Tower’s support is a big boost for the Light It Orange appeal, which runs for the month of July.
“The Sky Tower is an icon of the Auckland skyline and lighting it orange is a symbol of hope for women and children experiencing family violence, as we call upon the community to help Shine provide support for them,” says Lisa Rudolphe.
Light It Orange fundraising supports Shine’s specialist services which includes advocates who work with adults experiencing family violence; KIDshine support for children who experience family violence; emergency short-term accommodation; and programmes for people who use violence to motivate and support them to change their behaviour.
“Every year, women and children lose their lives to family violence, lives cut short by violent partners or parents. This is often after many missed opportunities to support them to safety – we need support right now to help.”
Lisa Rudolphe encourages workplaces, communities, teams and schools to get behind Shine’s campaign throughout July, both to help raise awareness about family violence, and to raise funds for Shine.
“Whether your team loves to be social, prefers to support behind the scenes, or you’re a mixed bunch, you can turn your collective creativity into real-world impact. Every single dollar counts!”
